After meeting your guide, you will be matched up in groups of 4 and assigned a manual drive vehicle (Jeep Wrangler or Jeep Patriot - 4 Guests per Jeep) and set out following the lead vehicle. As you drive by Cozumel town you will get an insight into some of the local life.
Your tour will continue with a drive around the island on a scenic paved road full of breathtaking views. Your professional guide will give you information during the different stops. Guests can trade off driving at the different stops if they choose.
You will access the Punta Sur State Refuge via a long, sandy road, which welcomes you to this unique ecological reserve. You will visit El Caracol, a small ancient Mayan ruin, once used as a weather alarm. You will also see the Columbia Lagoon, a magnificent and incredible ecosystem which feeds and provides balance to the reef formations. Watch for salt-water crocodiles in their natural environment and visit an observation tower which overlooks the lagoon.
You will then head to the beach to enjoy the year-round crystal-clear waters. You will follow the lead vehicle along sand paths to reach Punta Sur Bay where you will have the option to swim or snorkel. The snorkeling is along the protected and shallow reef which is located approximately 100 yards off the beach. It is full of colorful tropical fish and incredible sea life. Guests not up to the swim to the reef can beach walk, swim or just relax on the beach. Don't worry about your belongings, beach lockers are available for $5.
After your beach stop, its back to the Jeeps and a 10 minute drive to visit the Navigation Museum located inside the Punta Celarain lighthouse.
You will start the drive back towards town, but the tour is not over. You will make a quick stop at an exclusive beach resort to enjoy a delicious late afternoon Mexican lunch of chicken, beef or fish fajitas! Sodas, beer and mixed drinks are available for purchase.
