Learn about Chinese political and artistic culture on this day trip to the Great Wall of China and a Cloisonne factory right outside of Beijing. Traverse one of the most famous Chinese landmarks and discover Chinese artwork at each of these locations.
You will be picked up right at your hotel by an air-conditioned transportation service, which will take you outside the city of Beijing to the Great Wall of China to tour the Mutianyu section of the wall north of the city. Construction on the Great Wall began in the 7th Century B.C. to protect China from invaders, and now it spans 13,171 miles after being constructed and built upon over a series of Chinese dynasties. Due to its incredible length and size, it is the only man-made structure that can be viewed from space. The Mutianyu section of the Wall has a cable car system that you can choose to take up to the top of the wall. This section allows you to also challenge yourself physically by attempting to climb 1,400 steps to the top along a stretch of the wall that encompasses about one and a half miles. You will see different versions of the beautiful scenery on your Great Wall tour depending on the season. Whether the flowers are blossoming in spring, the forests are lush in the summer, or the Wall is covered with a delicate white snow in the winter, you will want to have a camera so that you can remember the scenery forever.
After your Great Wall tour, you will travel to a Cloisonne factory to tour the work area and get a first-hand look at each stage in the process of creating the artwork known as Cloisonne. Cloisonne is an ancient metalworking technique that uses thin copper wire to create designs on sculptures or porcelain before artisans paint to add color to the image or piece of artwork. Cloisonne is applied to two dimensional scenes and sculptures alike. You will see some of the artists working to create a piece of Cloisonne artwork in each stage of the process, which dates back to the Yuan Dynasty.
After the Cloisonne factory, you will travel back to your Beijing hotel for true door-to-door service. During the day tour, there will be a stop where you will be provided with an included Chinese-style lunch. No visit to China is complete without learning about its unique culture. This tour allows you to experience China's cultural and artistic history in one convenient and memorable day.
