Your Battle of Franklin tour begins with a visit to two local homes that were ravaged by fighting during the Civil War. You’ll visit the Carter House and the Lotz House, where you’ll hear plenty of details about the gruesome battles that left their mark on these beautiful Franklin homes. Positioned across the street from each other, these two locations saw a continuous 17 hours of fighting that killed more than 10,000 Americans. Both the Carter House and the Lotz House still bear the scars of battle, as evidenced by bullet and cannonball holes that are visible today. While visiting the Lotz House, tour one of the finest collections of Victorian period furniture in the world. After seeing these two homes on your Civil War tour, you’ll be taken down the road to the Carnton Plantation, which served as a Confederate Field Hospital after the Battle of Franklin. This site is home to the largest private Confederate Cemetery in the United States. Aside from these three locations, you’ll also have a chance to tour the quaint town of Franklin. Enjoy the numerous shops, have lunch on your own, and explore Franklin’s rich past before departing.
