After meeting your guide, you will drive to the mini jeep “corral”. Upon arrival, you will be assigned a 2 person Yamaha 4 x 4 Rhino (automatic) and your professional guide will brief you on safety measures and proper instruction on operating the mini all terrain vehicle.
Then set out with the guide for approximately 3 hours, first along a sandy road the Punta Sur State Refuge, an ecological reserve near the south end of the island. You will visit El Caracol, an ancient Mayan ruin, once used as a weather alarm. Watch for salt-water crocodiles in their natural environment from an observation tower which overlooks the lagoon.
You will follow the lead vehicle along sand paths to reach Punta Sur Bay where you will have the option to swim or snorkel during an approximately 30 minute stop. The snorkeling is along the protected and shallow reef which is located approximately 100 yards of the beach. It is full of colorful tropical fish and incredible sea life. Guests not up to the swim to the reef can beach walk, swim or just relax on the beach.
After your beach stop, you will drive the rhino back to the Welcome Station where you started your all terrain adventure. From here, you will be transferred to a beach resort where you will make a quick stop for a light snack of chips and Mexican Salsa. Guests wishing to spend more time at the resort can use lounge beach chairs, a fresh water swimming pool, and showers included in the price of your tour. Additional food is available for purchase as well as drinks.
A $2.00 per person National Marine Park Entrance fee will be required the day of the tour.
