Arlington National Cemetery

The Arlington Nation Cemetery is a US military cemetery located across the Potomac River from Washington DC in Arlington, Virginia. The cemetery is the final resting place of deceased veterans of US conflicts beginning with the Civil War. The cemetery spans more than 600 acres. Arlington National Cemetery also includes the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier which stands on top of a hill overlooking Washington DC. The tomb commemorates the many US soldiers who lost their life in battle but were not identified. The tomb opened to visitors in 1932. Notable people buried at Arlington National Cemetery include Presidents William Taft and John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, Senator Edward "Ted" Kennedy and General John Pershing. More than 4 million people visit the cemetery annually.
