Supreme Court

The Supreme Court is the highest court in the United States and forms the Judicial Branch of the Federal Government. The Supreme Court is comprised of the Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices all of whom are nominated by the President of the United States and confirmed by the US Senate. Supreme Court justices have lifetime tenure. The court was established by Article III of the US Constitution in 1789. The Supreme Court was built to match the neoclassical style which is prominent in Washington DC’s monuments and government buildings. The front, courtyards and most of the interior spaces are made of marble except the courtroom, which is lined with Spanish ivory vein marble.
