The National Gallery of Art was established in 1937 to provide public access to some of the finest works of art in the United States. Located on the National Mall, The Gallery includes the original neoclassical West Building which is linked to the modern East Building (designed by I.M. Pei), and the 6 acre Sculpture Garden. The Gallery’s collection of paintings, sculpture, drawings, and prints depicts the development of Western Art from the Middle Ages to the present. The Gallery also contains the only painting by Leonardo da Vinci in the Americas. Over 4 million guests visit the Gallery annually.
